We Should All Be Feminists
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
We Should All Be Feminists is good as a starter if you want to understand feminism and the need for it- however, there is a very heteronormative and cisnormative view throughout, and doesn't even slightly discuss how sexual orientation and gender identity as far as trans* identities go, which I found disappointing. As well as this, the author mentions virginity, which I feel is a construct used to control women's bodies and experiences, so there were a few points I didn't agree with. Overall, if you want a basic, easy to understand account of feminism, this is a good place to start, but definitely doesn't delve into how other identities can impact feminism.
